HP G71-340US laptop
Microsoft Windows 7 (64-bit)
When I installed it and turned it it on, the first thing that showed up at the top of the screen was "Serial number not found" but it continues to boot like normal. Until I went into the HP General Specs and it showed everything listed above

It will be ok unless you have to do a System Recovery to reinstall Windows. Recovery checks the info in BIOS chip to determine if the machine qualifies for OEM software install.

The BIOS chip on motherboard usually has all of that info. Obviously your motherboard does not have it. Reason unknown since we have no idea where you bought the board or if it was an original HP motherboard for your laptop.

Hi CherylG,
I had a new motherboard replaced at a repair shop but there telling me that it's a 578701-001 number that I should worry about nothing else, and I no that's not right.

@ncad1

You're very welcome. One suggestion-Check your COA label attached to bottom of laptop to see if Windows 7 license key is still legible-you may need it later. If it is, put tape over it now to protect it.
