I've just had notification of an updated driver for the touchpad via HP Assistant. I'd been having problems with the mousepad, not being able to turn it off when required and had been given lots of suggestions, none of which appeared to work. But yesterday, I noticed the pad wasn't working. Now, generally, that's fine (though I have no idea how it happened - a Windows update, maybe?) but ideally, I'd like to be able to turn it off and on as and when it's needed.  So my question is, before I install the new driver and get the thing running again, will I be able to turn it off and on... or will I be back to square one with a mousepad that won't turn off? Many thanks!

Thank you for posting on the HP Support Community.

To get the answer to this question, Windows updates are very necessary for your computer and for other devices connected to your computer
They mostly provide Bug fixes & Security Update Patches, improves system hardware stability. You can go ahead and update the driver if anything fails you can always perform driver rollback.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance.

Worry not! The Windows version on my laptop is completely up to date. That isn’t my issue. My question is, will I be able to turn on and turn off my mousepad (as I’m supposed to be able to do, but currently can’t) if I install the new driver? I’d rather not update the driver if all it brings me is further hassle. If the new driver fixes the loss of the turn-off/turn-on facility, then, brilliant - I’ll download it straight away. But I’d like to know the answer to that question in advance. Thank you.

Thank you for posting back.

To get the answer to this question, Yes you can download the new driver and check if that mouse turns on/off feature functions.

Keep me posted for further assistance.
