I'm thinking about buying additional RAM for my computer, but since I don't have the tools to open it, I have a question about how many modules it has available on the motherboard, Windows gives me two, with only one used.

Hey,

Windows is reporting the number of memory slots detected by the system, and in your case it’s correct. If it shows two slots with one in use, that means your motherboard supports two RAM modules and one slot is currently empty.

As long as this model does not have soldered-only memory, you can add a second RAM module without replacing the existing one. To be safe, match the same DDR type, speed, and voltage as the installed RAM. An HP service center can install it for you if you don’t have the tools to open the laptop yourself.

What model do you have? That way I can tell you exactly what RAM to look for and how much you can max out at.
