Common problems for Battery

Lately when I plug the ac adapter into the wall and then connect it to my laptop the light goes on and then goes off and then I unplug from both the computer and the wall and connect both and then it works. This has happened once every few week occasionally a couple times in one week. Today and one other time I had to keep plugging it in and taking it out four or five times before it worked.

I also have realized another issue and I am not sure if this is connected or correlated but when I plug in a phone to charge in the same wall outlet the computer is plugged into on top the moment i plug in the phone above where the laptop is plugged in the light goes off to the charger on my laptop and I have to take it out and plug it in again or sometimes when I unplug the phone it automatically goes on.

I would like your input on both issues here but I am really here for help and advice when I first plug my computer in and sometimes the charger light doesn't stay on unless i unplug it and plug it back in one or more times.

Hi @jacquelynm,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query.

It sounds like you're experiencing intermittent issues with your laptop's AC adapter connection. Here are a few steps you can try to troubleshoot the problem:

Check the Power Outlet:

  •  Ensure that the wall outlet you're using is functioning properly. You can test it by plugging in another device to see if it receives power.

Inspect the Adapter and Cables:

  • Examine the AC adapter and power cables for any visible damage, such as fraying or kinks. If you notice any damage, it may be necessary to replace the adapter or cables.

Secure Connections:

  • Make sure the connection between the AC adapter, the power cord, and the laptop is secure. Any loose connections can cause disconnection issues.

Test with Another Adapter:

  • If possible, try using another compatible HP AC adapter to see if the problem persists. This will help determine if the issue is with the adapter itself or the laptop.

Check the Laptop’s Power Jack:

  •  Inspect the power jack on the laptop for damage or blockages. Dust and debris can sometimes interfere with a secure connection.

Battery Issues:

  • If your laptop has a removable battery, try removing the battery and using the AC adapter alone to power the laptop. This can help identify if the battery is causing the issue.

Take care and have an amazing day!
