HP laptop 17.3"
Hi...could I get your advice concerning a laptop battery? We recently bought a new HP laptop PC (product # 4Z4Z8UA#ABA). This PC will probably be for home use only and will constantly be plugged into an AC outlet. I thought I could easily remove the battery (like with older laptops) but then discovered you have to take the PC apart to get to the battery and I'm afraid I may damage something or void the warranty. Which option would you recommend?  1) Leave battery in and keep laptop constantly plugged into the AC outlet.  2) Charge up battery then unplug from AC outlet then use battery power until battery needs recharging. 3) Remove battery and use AC power only. Or, what else would you recommend?

Thanks!

Also...as far as charging the battery, at what percentage should the battery be re-charged and is it OK to charge it up to 100%?

Your machine does NOT have RTC (or CMOS) battery therefore you need to keep normal battery inside.

Thank you for responding! I didn't know this laptop did NOT have a CMOS battery, so given that I need to leave the regular battery installed, how would you power the laptop? Would you stay plugged in to the wall power 24/7 or would you use battery power and then just recharge as needed?  We probably won't ever use this laptop outside of the house. Also, when recharging, at what percentage is it best to recharge the battery?  Thanks again for your help!

Yes keep the battery by all means. You can safely run it with AC power always plugged in. However, there is some small risk of swelling from doing things that way. You should run the laptop on battery maybe once every other week or once a month. Let it run down to about 15-20% then put it back on the charger and charge to 100% and run it that way for another 2-4 weeks. The battery and circuitry are "smart". There is a sensor which cuts off power to the battery when charged to 100% so no worries there. The battery is very robust and you really do not need to overthink. If you keep it on the charger for say 3 months or let it run down to 5% nothing bad is going to happen.
