Hello,

I read about hp battery calibration https://support.hp.com/gb-en/document/c04700771 still,  it's not clear enough. I read what people write on the internet but it's confusing.

What about newer laptops with built-in batteries? Is the procedure the same?

Step 1: Charge the battery

Use the power cord to charge the battery to a full charge.
  1. Plug in the power cord.
  2. Charge the battery to a full charge, 99% to 100%. To check the battery charge, mouse over the battery icon in the system tray on the Desktop.
  3. When the battery is fully charged, proceed to the next step.

I use 20/80 "rule" to recharge the battery (even though many say that 40/80 is better but I am not quite sure of this because of so many information people write and nobody mentions newer laptops and I can't find this information on this site whether it is necessary or not), so I start charging when the battery goes to 20% usually,

So about the first step, can I start from 20% battery state and charge it to 100%? And, do I have to turn the notebook off?

Step 2: Discharge the battery
After the battery fully charges, use HP PC Hardware Diagnostics to discharge the battery.
  1. Unplug the power cord.
  2. Press and hold the Power button for at least five seconds to turn off the computer.
  3. Turn on the computer and immediately press the F2 key repeatedly, about once every second until the HP PC Hardware Diagnostics UEFI menu displays.
  4. Click Component Tests in the main menu.

Do I have to change the power plan first? Instead of using Hp Pc hardware diagnostics, can I just use the notebook regularly till the battery discharges, to watch movies or something? There is no information on whether should I discharge the battery fully, I mean to 0%, in my power plan it is set to hibernate at 5%.

Then, do I have to wait for a while, approx 5 hours as it is recommended by some people, then proceed to the next step?

Step 3: Recharge the battery
Recharge the battery fully before you calibrate the battery.
NOTE:
If you run the HP Battery Check before the battery charges fully, you might get a false battery failure result.
  1. Plug in the power cord to charge the battery.
  2. Charge the battery to a full charge, 99% to 100%. To make sure the computer reaches a full charge, keep the computer attached to the power cord for at least 3 hours.
  1. NOTE:
The battery continues to charge with the computer on or off.
  2. Check the battery charge. Turn on the computer and start Windows normally. On the desktop mouse over the battery icon in the system tray to view the battery charge percentage. Make sure the battery charge percentage is 99% or 100%.

Isn't that bad to charge when the computer is on??

Is that all, I mean, could I use my computer normally and start charging it when the battery reaches 20% as usual?

Thanks for your answers in advance!
