I’m facing an issue with my HP Pavilion - 15-bc407tx laptop (Intel Core i5-8300H) related to Intel Rapid Storage Technology (RST) and RAID 0 volume management.
Issue Summary:
- My laptop originally had a 512GB M.2 SATA SSD (with OS installed) and a 1TB HDD configured in a RAID 0 volume using Intel RST.
- Recently, while attempting to reinstall Windows 10 (version 1903 for testing), I accidentally deleted all partitions from the RAID 0 volume via the Windows installer.
- Post this, the 512GB SSD disappeared completely — it’s not visible in Disk Management, Device Manager, BIOS (which has no option to configure SATA mode like AHCI/RAID), or the Windows installation drive list.
- The SSD is only detectable in the Intel Optane Memory and Storage Management application, where the Delete Volume option is greyed out (disabled).
- My 1TB HDD remains fully accessible and usable.
What I’ve Tried:
Checked BIOS settings (no SATA/AHCI/RAID option available)
Updated Intel RST drivers and Storage Management application
Attempted diskpart and disk management refresh — SSD not listed
The SSD is missing everywhere except in the Intel RST/Optane app, where I can’t delete or modify the existing RAID volume.
Request:
Could you please guide me on how to safely break/remove the RAID 0 configuration and make my 512GB SSD visible again in Windows and BIOS for normal usage?Any advice or recovery steps would be highly appreciated.
Thank you!

Hi @Dhamu1204
I do not understand very well your question, according to the image that you put you have a RAID 0 and you can see that it is working. The RAID 0 is the sum of the disks you have and is configured according to the smallest disk size, ie if you have 500 GB + 1 TB, you will never have 1.5 TB, you will have 1 TB and lose 500 GB of the 1 TB disk. And the image shows that a RAID of approximately 1TB

what I’m trying to do is break the existing RAID 0 volume and use both drives independently.
The issue is, I haven’t been able to find a way to delete or break the RAID volume — neither through the BIOS (since no option appears there) nor through the Intel RST Option ROM (Ctrl + I doesn’t work on startup).
Would appreciate it if you could guide me on how to safely break the RAID setup and use both storage devices separately on this laptop.
Thanks again for your help!

In the BIOS you will not find it, your laptop was not designed to work in RAID, you have done something that is not normally done a RAID via software that I do not really know what its effect is.
Now disabling RAID will most likely cause you to lose all the data on both disks, I recommend you do a backuyp before doing these steps recommended in the Intel for.
Re:Deleting Raid 0 using Intel Optane Storage Mgt. Tool. - Intel Community
- Open Intel® Rapid Storage Technology enterprise tool within Windows*
- Click the home button and select the array
- Under Volume properties, on the right side, you should be able to see "Delete volume"
- Click it and then select yes
- Once the volume has been deleted, it should be possible to see involved drives as individual drives

Thanks for trying to help with this — I appreciate it.
Just to clarify, in the Intel Rapid Storage Technology tool I’m currently using, the "Delete Volume" option isn’t available in the UI. I’ve already backed up and formatted my drives multiple times while troubleshooting this, so no worries on data loss at this point.
Regarding the enterprise tool you mentioned — are you referring to the Intel Rapid Storage Technology Enterprise (RSTE)? If so, could you confirm if it’s compatible with laptop consumer platforms?
this link: https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/download/19472/intel-rapid-storage-technology-enterprise-int...) — do I need a specific version or chipset support for this? when i click on download link, nothing happens!!
Thanks again — looking forward to your guidance on this.

the intel optane was designed to use optane disks, it should have the function to disable the intel optane, otherwise you must format the disks by deleting the partitions use diskpart.
you can try the following software to see if it works for you

I deleted all the partitions on both my SSD and HDD while reinstalling Windows. After deleting the all partitions, the SSD disappeared from the list.
Now,
In DiskPart now, I can see only one disk — my HDD.
I installed the Intel Virtual RAID on CPU (VROC) Storage Management application, but it’s showing the following error:
"No Intel VROC managed controllers detected in the system."

I tried removing the HDD and leaving only the SSD connected, but during Windows installation, no drives appeared in the list to install the OS.
In the Load Driver option, I loaded the RAID/Intel RST driver from the following link:
👉 Intel Rapid Storage Technology Driver for 8th and 9th Gen Platforms
But the disk still didn’t show up. It gave the error:
"No drives were found. Click Load Driver to provide a mass storage driver for installation."
I then tried the latest version as well:
👉 Intel Rapid Storage Technology Driver for 10th and 11th Gen Platforms
But unfortunately, I got the same result — no disk detected during installation.

use diskpart and see if it lists the disk
