Microsoft Windows 11

Hi all.

Looking for some tips to increase performance on my laptop, specifically to run CAD programs.

I think I would require more memory, is this possible and how do I achieve this?

Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-1035G1 CPU @ 1.00GHz 1.19 GHz

Installed RAM: 8.00 GB (7.78 GB usable)

is there a way I can boost up to 16 or 32GB?

Hi:

The onboard Intel graphics adapter is the major problem you have when running CAD programs.

You need a PC with a robust, dedicated GPU.

According to the Crucial memory report for your notebook, it should support up to 2 x 16 GB of memory.

You could use the DDR4-3200 memory Crucial recommends or this other brand:

Timetec 16GB DDR4 2666MHz PC4-21300 Unbuffered Non-ECC 1.2V CL19 2Rx8 Dual Rank 260 Pin SODIMM Lapto...

HP only has the service manual for the older model series in which they state the maximum memory for those models is 2 x 8 GB.

You can also run this command to see what Windows indicates is the maximum memory:

1. In the search box, search for cmd and click Run as administrator.

This will open the command prompt.

2. Once command prompt is opened, type wmic memphysical get maxcapacityEx and press the enter key.

There, it will show the maximum RAM capacity your PC's motherboard can support.

The capacity is shown as Kilobytes, so you have to convert it to Gigabytes by dividing the number provided in the report by 1,048,576.

Hello!

I think I have bought the wrong one - doh!!

I have bought a 16GB DDR4 - 2400 (2x8gb)

seems my laptop only has one slot, and the ram is twice that of the one in the laptop.

should I of bought a 3200 SODIMM instead of a UDIMM?

my max is 2666, would the 3200 downgrade to 2666?

thanks!

Hi:

Yes, you did, and how come didn't you buy the 16 GB memory chip I posted for you that is on Amazon.UK?

Please look at my original reply.

A UDIMM is for desktop PC's

A SODIMM is for notebook PC's.

Here's the link (again) for the memory I recommended the other day:
