I'm looking for some information on the HP 15 dy2021nr RAM specs. Some websites say it takes a max of 32GB 2666mhz and others say it can take 64GB 3200mhz. RAM is cheap now and if it can support the 64GB I'd like to do that for the small extra cost. Any help would be appreciated.

Hi:

The HP specs for the notebook you have indicates that it comes with DDR4-2666 MHz memory.

HP Laptop 15-dy2021nr Product Specifications | HP® Customer Support

That leads me to believe that 2666 MHz is as fast as the memory will run or HP would have listed DDR4-3200 memory in the specs.

The Intel specs for the processor indicates that it supports DDR4-3200 memory.

Intel® Core™ i5-1135G7 Processor

Under the circumstances, I would buy DDR4-3200 memory because the worst that can happen is the memory runs at 2666 MHz.

Chapter 1 of the service manual indicates that the max memory supported is 2 x 8 GB.

HP Laptop PC 15-dy2000 Manuals | HP® Customer Support

The service manual is out of date and covers the notebooks with the Intel 8th generation core processors.

What I recommend you do to determine how much memory the notebook will support would be to run this command:

1. In the search box, search for cmd and click Run as administrator.

This will open the command prompt.

2. Once the command prompt is opened, type wmic memphysical get maxcapacityEx and hit enter.

There, it will show the maximum RAM capacity your PC's motherboard can support.

The capacity is shown as Kilobytes, so you have to convert it to Gigabytes by dividing the number provided in the report by 1,048,576.

If the report indicates 33,xxx, xxx then your notebook should support 2 x 16 GB of memory.

If the report indicates 67,xxx,xxx then your notebook should support 2 x 32 GB of memory.
