Hi Guys.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
RE:
HP Pavilion X360 8GB RAM 128GB SSD 1TB HDD 15-cr0005tx Laptop
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Can anyone help me with these Questions?
QUESTIONS: -
(1). What is the Maximum amount of allowable RAM this Laptop can use?
Is it 16GB or 32GB?
The Manufacturer 'CRUCIAL' Website AI Assistant says it's 32GB, whereas a couple of other Websites state it's 16GB. The HP Website does not specifically state the Maximum RAM in its Specifications.
(2). If the RAM is: -
(a). 16GB, can I purchase 2 Identical 8GB RAM Cards to attain Maximum Speed Performance, or, must I purchase a Special 2 x 8GB Card KIT from a Manufacturer to attain Maximum Performance?
(b). 32GB, can I purchase 2 Identical 16GB RAM Cards to attain Maximum Speed Performance, or, must I purchase a Special 2 x 16GB Card KIT from a Manufacturer to attain Maximum Performance?
(3). What Version/Generation is the Motherboard PCIe BUS for this Laptop. Is it PCIe 2, PCIe 3, or PCIe 4?
(4). Is the SSD for this Laptop Removable and Upgradeable, or, is it Soldered-in?
(5). The FAN in my Laptop is making a Noise, thus, needs replacing. How many FANs are there inside my Laptop, and what Types are they? I know there's a CPU FAN, that's about it.
I want to Replace the Damaged FAN. What are the best Make/Model of FANs for this Laptop?
I'm not interested in Fans that use Liquids as a Lubricant because if they should leak then it can quite easily destroy your Laptop, or, at the least it will create a Giant Mess that needs cleaning-up, and like Maynard G. Krebs in 'The Many Loves Of Dobie Gillis', I have a thing for Work, I hate it. Maybe some day it will grow on me, I just can't see it happening any time soon.

Hi:
Chapter 1 of the service manual indicates the max memory is 12 GB and that can't be right because if you can install an 8 GB memory chip in one slot, then you can install an 8 GB memory chip in the second slot.
If you want to install 2 x 16 GB of memory run this command to see if it agrees with Crucial's report:
1. In the search box, search for cmd and click Run as administrator.
This will open the command prompt.
2. Once command prompt is opened, type wmic memphysical get maxcapacityEx and press the enter key.
There, it will show the maximum RAM capacity your PC's motherboard can support.
The capacity is shown as Kilobytes, so you have to convert it to Gigabytes by dividing the number provided in the report by 1,048,576.
The specs indicate the notebook came with 1 x 8 GB of memory, so for 16 GB you should just be able to install a second 8 GB DDR4-2400 CL17 memory chip in the empty slot.
I recommend Crucial memory if you can get it in Australia.
The M.2 SSD slot is PCIe Gen 3.0.
While a Gen 4 NVMe SSD will work, it will not run at its maximum advertised read/write speed from the Gen 3 slot.
The M.2 2280 SSD is removable as set forth in chapter 5 of the service manual.
I can only provide the replacement fan part/heatsink part number which is listed your notebook's parts list at the link below:
L20819-001 | THERMAL MODULE W/FAN DSC |
The fan is not sold separately.
