HP Laptop PC 14s-dq2000 (26G78AV)
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Dear All,

I have a laptop PC 14s-dq2011ur. In stock it have a 4Gb RAM Samsung 3200Mhz. I have install additional same modul and it's OK, same 3200!

However I taked off from another laptop two modules by 8Gb Crucial with frequency 3200, installed and it works only at 2666Mhz maximum. CPU intel 7505 limit is 3200 according to specification.
What a reason of low frequency? Is it Chipset limitation or RAM manufacturer? Would be Samsung m471a1k43db1-cwe works at maximum?

Thanks in advance and best regards!

The modules you are having problems with are not listed or marketed by Crucial memory as guaranteed to be compatible with your notebook.

Crucial Memory's guaranteed compatible  modules are at the hyperlink below this line. Compare the part numbers.

Its running as designed. DDR4-3200 is installed but it will downclock (bridge) to -2666 speed. This is a hardware limit of the motherboard and not something you can overcome. Memory description from the service manual:

Memory Two SODIMM slots, not customer accessible or upgradeable
Intel Core and Pentium Gold 5404U and 4417U processors
DDR4-2400 dual-channel support (DDR4-3200 bridge to 2666, DDR4-2666 downgrade to DDR4-2400)

Seriously? I have mentioned that 7505 limit is 3200 and it works on 3200 with two modules of Samsung by 4GB each. Why it does not the same with Crucial 8GB? May be whitlist. Anyway awful support from HP leads to buy and try.

Go back and check again with the pair of Samsung 4 gb modules and post a screenshot similar to above. Its a miracle if you can get the machine to run memory at -3200 speed. Either that, or the Service Manual is incorrect and then we have another mystery why the Crucial would run slower.

Well we have a mystery on our hands. Can you tell us the product number of the Crucial memory you are using? Are you applying any kind of overclocking to the CPU?

HP Recommended

Sorry for a late response. "any kind of overclocking" - no, I did not see any option in BIOS. pn: CT8G4SFS832A M8FR1

I also tested with only one module and it's same.

Is any data sheet or list of compatible spare parts?

Looks like you are right. CT8G4SFS832A is not in list. I have upgraded lot of various laptops and it's a first time for me, something new)) Many thanks!

I found similar list for kingston but not for samsung, can you help with last one?

HP Recommended

Unfortunately, it is difficult to find a list for Samsung memory that could resolve the issue.

What you could do is compare the  memory voltage and  module timing specificatons of a guauanteed compatible crucial 8 GB module to the ones by Samsung you are considering to be viable candidate modules for your notebook.

That is about the best I can do for you as I do not have unlimited access to noteboks and memory modules.

That is the reason that I tend to put the onus on memory manufacturing vendors and companies. Their reputation is their stake in the upgrade equation.

I let them do the work for me. It saves me time and $$ when I upgrade.
