Hello everyone,

So today I attempted to upgrade my notebook RAM from 4GB (Single channel) to 8GB (Dual channel) by adding another 4GB SO-DIMM. I was done with the disassembly and the reassembly process successfully.

When I booted my laptop, in system properties it is showing me only 4.00GB Ram.

I use CPU-Z for further statistics. CPU-Z listed both the Memory slots in use. (Pictures below).

But in Memory tab, CPU-Z is showing 8Gbytes running on Single channel.

There is no difference in performance, still the same as before.

This is the RAM that I got for my upgrade:

I did a research before getting the Dimm and I kept the specs in consideration (PC3L-12800S 4GB 1600Mhz).

But the Part Number, Serial Number and Week/Year are different on the new RAM.

Also, the chips on the new RAM are different and double the chips that my original RAM has.

This is the upgraded Ram.

This is the original Ram my laptop shipped with.

I don't know what seems to be the issue here.

Did I order the wrong RAM? Because I also checked for BIOS update and I already have the latest one.

Can anyone point out what is the issue and guide me accordingly?

Help is highly appreciated.

Regards,

Zarak

Yes the issue is that the memory is mismatched. Density (number of chips) is important. This is a good illustration that when we continually say that it is better to install matched modules there is a reason for the advice.

I tried to find the same exact Part number of my original RAM but I was off to no avail. Can I get some better Ram tips?

What better RAM tips? Like go ahead and install whatever, it's cool? I don't know what you mean.

Oops, lack of meaning, apologies for that.

I mean like tips for how to get the matching RAM for your notebook to upgrade.

What country are you in and what is written on the original module?

I'm in Kuala Lumpur, MY.

This is the original module:

That is a high density low voltage module.

I don't know if Flipkart ships to Myanmar:

Kuala Lumpur is in Malaysia, not Myanmar.

And that is not the correct RAM for my system. Thanks for the look around anyways.

If you don't think that is the right memory then I am not sure what you are looking for. It is the right speed, latency and density. Sorry about the geographic ignorance. You likely have a lot more options in Malaysia than I thought you had in the other place.
