RAM Upgrade

I would like to upgrade my current 4 GB RAM pc to a 16GB RAM, I own a hp 15 db0053nl laptop with a DDR4 motherboard.

I tried to check with RAMexpert how may slots an the maximum ram supported on my pc and it indicates 2 slots  (one occupied by the 4GB RAM) e that I can upgrade my RAM up to 64GB.
I was wondernig how trustworthy is that information, I tried to search for compatible RAM memory of Kingston and Crucial and they both said the only RAM compatible with my device is 8GB because my laptop might not recognise the 16GB RAM.
From experience do you suggest that I settle for the 8GB or that I try with the 16GB anyways, even though it might only recocgnise 8GB?

Hi:

Your notebook only has one memory slot according to chapter 1 of the service manual and the max memory the slot can support is 1 x 8 GB.

One memory module slot (E2/A4/A6 processors):

Supports up to 8 GB of system RAM.

Now if you want to experiment to see if a 16 GB memory chip has any chance of working in the one slot, you can run this command:

1. In the search box, search for cmd and click Run as administrator.

This will open the command prompt.

2. Once command prompt is opened, type wmic memphysical get maxcapacityEx and hit enter.

There, it will show the maximum RAM capacity your PC's motherboard can support.

The capacity is shown as Kilobytes, so you have to convert it to Gigabytes by dividing the number provided in the report by 1,048,576.

If it indicates the notebook can support 32 GB of memory (it may detect the circuitry for the non-existent 2nd slot), this should be a compatible 16 GB memory chip for your notebook, if you want to experiment.

I tried the prompt command that you suggested to learn about the maximum capacity of the ram and the result is 67108864, which converted to GB is equivalent to 64GB. So I can peacefully try the 16GB RAM and the laptop will read successfully the memory chip, right?

That's surprising. 

Yes a 16 GB chip should have an excellent chance of working.
