Hi there,
I bought a new laptop, HP 15 db0996 and I would like to upgrade the 8GB RAM to 16GB or 32GB and I would like to change the 1TB HDD to 500GB SSD.
Current RAM: Hynix HMA851S6CJR6N-VK 2x4GB
Current HDD: Seagate ST1000LM035-1RK172 1TB
I would like to know:
- the RAM needs to have the same PIN?
- the maximum RAM capacity?
- can I change the HDD to SSD on this laptop?
- if yes, what is the SSD type for this laptop (examples for SSD)?
Source I founded for upgrade:
RAM
SSD

Here is the Service Manual:
M.2 = red oval memory = green HDD = blue
Memory required is DDR4-2400 SO-DIMM and the official maximum is 2 x 8 = 16 gigs but other users have reported successful upgrades to 2 x 16 = 32 gigs on the Ryzen systems. We cannot guarantee more than 16 gigs will work, however.
It can take a NVME/PCIe M.2 disk such as the Samsung Evo 970 2280 form factor disk. See the diagram above for placement.
The Crucial and Corsair kits you linked are the correct type and speed of memory but you do not need to spend anything extra on performance or gaming memory as you will achieve no additional performance. The Crucial is likely a better choice and they offer either a 16 or 32 gig kit.
The SSDs you ask about are 2.5 inch SATA and yes, you can replace the hard drive with one of those but the performance of an NVME M.2 is 4 or 5 times better and you can keep the existing hard drive.
Post back with any other questions and please accept as solution if this is the info you needed.
