I'm looking to upgrade the memory and install a new SSD on my laptop. Just bought it from hpshopping website a week ago.

Interested in a 4GB RAM upgrade making a total of 8GB RAM and have a SSD installed on the m2 slot.

Few clarifications on this.

a) Will this upgrade void my warranty

b) What are the compatible 4GB RAM options available

c) What are the compatible 240GB/250GB SSD options available that are compatible.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Hi,

Upgrading RAM and Drives is an accepted practice and will not void the warranty as long as you do not damage anything during the upgrade.

Your PC will support max 32GB of DDR4 2400Mhz RAM (even if service manual mentions 16GB)

You have two slots. You can purchase RAM from your preferred brand such as Crucial, Samsung...

Example of RAM:

https://www.crucial.com/usa/en/compatible-upgrade-for/HP-Compaq/hp-15-db0186au#MEMORYFilters

So, yes you can insert a 4GB stick for a total of 8GB. On page 43 of service manual you can see the steps to install RAM:

http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c06245081

You can insert an M2 SSD in the notebook. It supports SATA 3 and much faster M2 PCIe NVMe SSD such as the M2 Samsung 970 Plus or similar. There is no limit to capacity.

Example:

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07MG119KG/ref=twister_B07NLZ58HW?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1

You will need to install the OS and software on SSD for performance gain.

Hope it helps,

David

would it support 8gb ddr4 ram in the empty slot along with the original 4gb ram?

hi there,

it should support any ram configuration as long as you don't exceed the max memory support.

keep in mind that dual-channel configuration works best when both the sticks are of the same brand, capacity and frequency.
