Dear Guys,

I've just bought this notebook, 15-DY1005NL. A good one for my needs but I would like to increse the RAM from 8 to 16. How can I know if there are slots available? and which kind of RAM should I buy?

Many thanks  for your help

All the best

Luca

Hi Luca,

Your notebook supports max 32GB of DDR4 2666MHz RAM (2x16GB)

At the moment you have one 8GB module, so you could add another 8GB module in the empty slot. You can choose from your preferred brand

Example:

https://it.crucial.com/compatible-upgrade-for/hp---compaq/hp-15-dy1005la#memory

On page 32 of service manual you can see the steps to install the RAM

Hope it helps,

David

Many thanks David.

For me RAM is just a number, the higher the better.

Is 16mb ram considerably increasing performance of my notebook?

Thanks again

Luca

Hi,

Your notebook should be high performance with the 10th gen i5 and NVMe SSD, fast.

8GB of RAM should be great for everyday performance and "normal use of the computer". You can always check Task Manager and see the actual amount actually in use in any given moment. So upgrading to 16 would not make much difference. However in the future or if you are using "RAM hungry software", you could upgrade to 16GB. I believe the actual limit is 64GB with these tenth gen CPUs.

And if you ever need more room than the 256GB SSD you can always upgrade the M2 SSD to a much higher capacity and probably faster one.

Hope it helps,

David
