HP Laptop PC 15s-fq2000 (2D118AV)

Hello first time here and my question is if SK Hynix hmaa1gs6cjr6n-xnn0 ram is compatible for my laptop 15s-fq2000np (i checked hp profile page and it says HP Laptop PC 15s-fq2000 (2D118AV)if that helps) i have been looking for an upgrade for a while but i'm not sure so it's good to have a professional's opinion, right now i have 8gbs of ram (2x4gb),also from SK Hynix, and i wanted to get a 16gbs (2x8) upgrade since, from my research, it can take a max of 32gb

@MP997Gamer,

Welcome to our peer-to-peer HP Community Forum!

Your HP Laptop PC 15s-fq2000 (2D118AV) appears to be fitted with "SODIMM 8GB 2666MHz 1.2v DDRM (p/n: 937236-855)" RAM.

According to: https://www.crucial.com/compatible-upgrade-for/hp---compaq/hp-15s-fq2000#memory, you can upgrade your laptop with up to 2 x 16GB of DDR4 PC4-25600, 3200 MHz, Non-ECC, Unbuffered, SODIMM, 260-pin RAM sticks.  This will down throttle to 2666 MHz (or 2400 MHz, depending what processor you got).

As far as I am able to ascertain, the RAM you referenced (SK Hynix 8GB 1Rx16 PC4 DDR4 3200MHz PC4-25600 RAM HMAA1GS6CJR6N-XN 1.2V PIN-260 SODIMM Laptop Memory) should be compatible with your laptop but will also down throttle to either 2666 or 2400 MHz.

Please remember that for best RAM performance, it is highly recommended to install identical RAM: same brand, model, and capacity.

Hope this was helpful.

Kind Regards,

Hi, @MP997Gamer

I do not agree that the memory you want to buy will definitely work.

The reason being that it is 1Rx16 and HP installed a 1Rx8 memory chip in your notebook.

I don't know of many HP notebooks that work with 1R x16 memory and I notice that memory manufacturers are switching to this memory type for one reason or another.

Best to find a memory chip that is 1Rx8.

There was an 'inner circle' discussion about this that you don't have access to, so I will copy and paste what one of the forum experts had to say about recent issues with HP notebooks and 1Rx16 memory...

"Apparently Crucial has decided to change some of its specific RAM product codes to codes that include two or three different versions of the same RAM module. For example, the module CT16G4SFRA32A that is (supposedly) compatible with systems requiring 16GB cl22 3200 sodimms, has been reported to actually be either 2RX8, 1RX8 and unfortunately even 1RX16 RAM (depending on available stock). The latter will NEVER run on existing HP laptops (as far as I know), the 1Rx8 might, the 2Rx8 will always work correctly. There have been many reports on the HP forum, and on other laptop companies' fora of the CT16G4SFRA32A making laptops unbootable. I suggest finding previous product codes (from Crucial) that only have one version, so as to know what you're actually buying. In this case, the omni-compatible 2Rx8 module is: CT16G4SFD832A."

Thanks Paul_Tikkanen I also found the HMAA4GS6AJR8N-XNN0 on the SK hynix site wich has the "organization x8" if that's what you're talking about.

@MP997Gamer,

My bad: @Paul_Tikkanen is correct -avoid 1Rx16 RAM.

You're very welcome.

When I google the part number you posted, all I come up with are 32 GB memory chips 2Rx8.

The 2Rx8 is OK, but best to match with 1Rx8 memory but a single 32 GB memory chip will not work...to large a chip.

Google the 937236-855 part number that NonSequitur777 posted on Amazon or eBay and buy one of those.

It really doesn't matter who makes it.  I see that part number has been assigned to SK Hynix and Micron chips.
