Well explained, thanks Paul.

 

Pretty disappointing that HP say it's not upgradeable when it is.  Hard to know if that's an intentional or accidental error, but you would think that the RAM they specify in their service manual (i.e. HP part # 747221-005) would state that it is single-sided, since that seems to be key for this PC.

Most folks don't pay attention to the HP memory and drive part numbers because 99% of the time you can buy hard drives or memory that would work. 

 

But you hit the nail on the head. If someone looked up the memory part number, and found a memory chip with that part number they would have found it was an unusual configuration having the memory chips only on one side of the circuit board.

 

Even knowing that, how many would have surmised that was critical?

 

If you can get the 4 Gb single sided memory,  please post back and let us know how your notebook's memory upgrade project went.
