HP Notebook 15s-fq1085tu
Microsoft Windows 11

Hello, I was planning on upgrading the RAM in my computer, there is already 1 slot used out of the 2, and I am planning on removing the RAM in slot 1 and adding higher speed and higher capacity RAM in both slots. I would like to know how much total RAM my mother board could support and at what speeds. My mother board is the HP 86C9

Hi:

According to the service manual for the older model series, the notebook has two memory slots and can support 2 x 8 GB of memory.

HP 15s-fq1000 Laptop PC (7BJ15AV) - Setup and User Guides | HP® Support

DDR4-3200 memory will work, but it will still only run at 2666 MHz because that is as fast as your notebook's processor can run the memory at.

If you want to see if the notebook can support more than 2 x 8 GB of memory, you can run this command:

1. In the search box, search for cmd and click Run as administrator.

This will open the command prompt.

2. Once command prompt is opened, type wmic memphysical get maxcapacityEx and hit enter.

There, it will show the maximum RAM capacity your PC's motherboard can support.

The capacity is shown as Kilobytes, so you have to convert it to Gigabytes by dividing the number provided in the report by 1,048,576.
