HI @Shweta14,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

High RAM usage with no applications open can be due to various reasons, such as background processes, services, malware, or even memory leaks. Here are some steps to diagnose and address this issue:

Steps to Diagnose and Fix High RAM Usage

Check Task Manager:

  • Open Task Manager by pressing Ctrl + Shift + Esc or Ctrl + Alt + Del and selecting Task Manager.
  • Click on the Processes tab and sort by Memory to see which processes are using the most RAM.
  • Identify any unusual or unnecessary processes that are consuming a lot of memory.

Disable Startup Programs:

  • In Task Manager, go to the Startup tab.
  • Disable any unnecessary startup programs that might be using memory.

Check for Malware:

  • Run a full system scan using your antivirus software to check for any malware or unwanted programs that might be consuming memory.

Update Drivers and Windows:

  • Ensure all your drivers are up to date. Visit the HP Support website and download the latest drivers for your laptop (product number 7df84av).
  • Make sure Windows is up to date by going to Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update and checking for updates.

Check for Memory Leaks:

  • Some applications or drivers might have memory leaks, causing them to consume more RAM over time. Identify and update or uninstall any such applications.

Adjust Virtual Memory Settings:

  • Go to Control Panel > System and Security > System > Advanced system settings.
  • Under the Advanced tab, click on Settings under Performance.
  • Go to the Advanced tab and click on Change under Virtual memory.
  • Ensure that the paging file size is set to be managed by the system, or manually set an appropriate size.

Perform a Clean Boot:

  • Press Win + R, type msconfig, and hit Enter.
  • In the System Configuration window, go to the Services tab and check Hide all Microsoft services, then click Disable all.
  • Go to the Startup tab and click Open Task Manager. Disable all startup items.
  • Restart your laptop and check if the RAM usage issue persists. If the issue is resolved, enable the services and startup items one by one to identify the culprit.

Check for Windows Memory Diagnostics:

  • Press Win + R, type mdsched.exe, and hit Enter.
  • Choose to restart your computer and check for problems. This will run a memory test to check for RAM issues.

Reinstall Windows:

  • If none of the above steps work, consider reinstalling Windows to start fresh. Ensure you back up all your important data before doing this.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
