HP Notebook - 15-da0996nl

Hi, I have an HP 15-da0996nl notebook, I would like to increase the RAM memory, going from 12 GB DDR4 2400MHz to 16 GB or 32 GB. How do I know how many MHz the new RAM memories can be? Can I mount the 3200MHz ones or do I have to mount the 2400MHz ones?

Hi:

According to chapter 1 of your notebook's service manual, it supports 2 x 8 GB of memory.

HP 15 Laptop PC Maintenance and Service Guide

But most HP notebooks that have two memory slots and an Intel 8th gen core processor, will support 2 x 16 GB of memory.

This is evidenced by the Crucial memory report for your notebook that indicates 32 GB of memory is supported.

HP - Compaq HP 15-da0996nl | Aggiornamenti Memoria RAM e SSD | Crucial IT

It is OK to install 2 x 16 GB of DDR4-3200 memory in your notebook and it will automatically bridge to 2400 MHz because that is the fastest speed your notebook's processor can run the memory at.

You can also do this to confirm how much memory your notebook can support:

1. In the search box, search for cmd and click Run as administrator.

This will open the command prompt.

2. Once command prompt is opened, type wmic memphysical get maxcapacityEx and hit enter.

There, it will show the maximum RAM capacity your PC's motherboard can support.

The capacity is shown as Kilobytes, so you have to convert it to Gigabytes by dividing the number provided in the report by 1,048,576.

I'm pretty sure you will find that it supports 2 x 16 GB of memory.
