Spectre 15-CH005NA
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I've just recently upgraded the RAM on my spectre from 8GB to 32GB for Computational Fluid Dynamics, although when running simulations the memory seems to be capped at 16% usage and will not use any more RAM than this, any help?

@Griffskii Your device only supports memory up to 16GB, as per your product service and maintenance guide: Click here to verify, here's an image to what you'd be looking at in the link:

This would explain why the rest of the ram isn't being used, you could attempt updating the BIOS to check if that makes any difference: Click here for steps.

Let me know how that pans out & welcome to HP Forums. 😉

Hello,

Thank you for the reply. the BIOS is recognising the 32Gb Ram and same with UEFI. That being said it should still be utilising 16Gb of ram and not the 7.3Gb. Last time i tried a BIOS update and crashed therefore its a last resort for me.

@Griffskii
Thank you for responding with the details,

I suggest you perform the below steps:

This option in Windows is used to reserve RAM that is used during the boot procedure when your system is turning on. By default, it may permanently and unnecessarily reserve a significantly large amount of RAM for it.

  • To set that right, Press and Hold the Windows key and Press R. Type msconfig in the Run dialog box and Press Enter.
  • System Configuration window will open. Go to the Boot tab in it.
  • Select your Operating system from the list below if you have more than one. Now Click on the Advanced Options button.
  • On the upper right corner, Clear the checkbox next to Maximum memory. Click Ok.
  • Now restart your computer. Check of the issue resolved. If not, move on to the next solution.

If the issue persists, remove the ram, start the PC, turn it off, and re-insert the ram and check if the full ram size is showing under BIOS, by tapping on F10 during a restart.

If nothing works, I'm afraid you'll need to downgrade to a 16GB ram as supported by the device in the maintenance guide I shared earlier.

keep me posted &I hope that answers your query,

Hi,

Your PC supports the 32GB of RAM. Could it be that it is the max RAM needed for calculations. How is the CPU and GPU running?

Task manager.PNGThe CPU and GPU seem to be working fine as far as i can tell, its just the memory which just seems to be capped. Ive turned off maximum memory cap in the msconfig settings but that made no difference. Memtest 96 results came back fine, so i just have no idea whats holding it back

Could it be something to do with needing a memory remap?
