Trying to upgrade the 4GB ram module to 8GB. I've tried two "compatible" 8GB chips, the second being the same brand as the original. When I install the module, the system will not boot up. If I replace with the original 4GB, all is fine. I've updated to the latest BIOS version. No help.
Any suggestions? Do I need to clear any CMOS in order for the system to recognize the new RAM configuration?
Thanks!

Crucial Memory guarantees their compatible memory will work.

That would be the best way to bump your installed memory up to the 8GB maximum.

I've already tried (and returned) two separate 8GB chips. The second chip is the same manufacturer of the original. While I could go to Crucial, I fear that I would just be wasting time and have to return the item for a third time.
I was hoping someone in this forum could provide me with a success story. I've seen a lot of folks asking this question, without any definitive answers.

Are you mixing 4GB and 8GN memory modules in the soDIMM slots? That is not the best of plans and may be why it failed.
Why would you have fear of wasting your time when the company that produces the memory and sells it guarantees success with the products it markets as compatible for a specific laptop?
You already wasted your time by not installing guaranteed compatible memory modules. Save time by installing guaranteed compatible memory modules from a mainstream supplier of memory modules.

No, I replaced the 4 GB chip with the 8 GB chip in the picture. I only have one slot for memory. I provided the picture because I was showing that I tried to match the exact brand/type of chip that was already in there.

Well clearly that isn't going well.
I won't repeat the advice I have given.
Using guaranteed compatible memory in laptops and desktop motherboards when I am building a DIY system has never failed me.
Good luck with your memory upgrade.
With your method, if you keep throwing memory modules in there eventually one will work.
It may be a time consuming effort.
