OMEN by HP Laptop PC - 17-w033dx (ENERGY STAR)
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hi there,

I'm upgrading (trying to upgrade) the ram in this laptop.  (omen 17-w033dx)

it has 1x4 and 1x8, 2133 mhz.  I'm trying to upgrade to 2x8

the processor in this rig is  Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-6700HQ CPU @ 2.60GHz, 2592 Mhz, 4 Core(s),

6th gen

The RAM I tried: PNY 8gb ddr4 2400 1.2v sodimm. Fails to boot (with error light code indicating memory load failure) with two sticks, and fails with both sticks independently seated by themselves (1x8gb)

The recommended ram from HP is a ddr4 2666 1.2v sodimm.

It seems like the ram i have should be compatible and I cant figure out why it wont boot.  Does anyone have any insight?  Let me know if more info can help

Hi:

In theory it should have worked, but sometimes HP notebook PC's have compatibility problems with PNY memory.

There is nothing you can do, but to return the memory, and I recommend the compatible Crucial memory kit for your notebook instead.

Hello,

I have faced the same problem when I was trying to upgrade a laptop, 1st you will need to check the rams and make sure it has same pass and speed, if they are different pass and speed it will be conflicting and causing boot failure or slowing down, and its preferred if they were the same manufacture, 2nd u will need to check if the chips on rams are compatible as some times it will not boot, and when it does it will be slow and you notice not all the capacity for rams are used, and before all that you will need to check your device specs, and not to try to go up with ram pass and speed as mostly it fails
