Hi,
2 yrs ago, i installed additional ram of 8GB on top of the 4GB preinstalled. Obviously the 4GB sits on slot 0, and then the 8GB on slot 1.
Then i saw this article snippet from iFixit:
"Some motherboards require higher-capacity modules to be installed in lower-numbered slots. For example, if you are installing two 256 MB DIMMs in a dual-channel motherboard that has four DIMM sockets, with 128 MB DIMMs already installed in the 0 slots for channel A and channel B, you may have to move those 128 MB DIMMs to the 1 slots for channel A and channel B and install the new 256 MB DIMMs in the 0 slots for both channels."
There. Now i'm planning to switch my RAMs so the 8GB will sit on slot 0, and the 4GB on slot 1. My question is, will there be any performance improvement of i do that? Thanks!

Hi:
Since your notebook only has two memory slots, there won't be any difference.
If you want to increase performance, you will need to remove the 4 GB memory chip, install another 8 GB memory chip and not only will you have 16 GB of memory, but it will be running in the higher performing dual channel mode.
Right now, your 12 GB of memory is running in the lower performing single channel mode no matter which slot you install the memory in.

You're very welcome.
The manual is not correct regarding the max memory.
Here is the link to the crucial memory report for your notebook.

If you can install an 8 GB chip in one slot, you can install an 8 GB chip in the other slot.

Thanks. Wow, i wish i knew that ahead so i can maximize my RAM to 16GB. Thanks for the info! On my other hand, I am now starting to think that i can still put M.2 NVMe SSD on my ba064tx laptop even though the manual says I can only use M.2 (not NVMe).
The latter inference might not be related to my initial concern, but if you can confirm that i can put M.2 NVMe on my ba064tx, i'll greatly appreciate!

You're very welcome.
Chapter 1 of the manual specifically states that NVMe drives are only supported in the For use only on computer models with model numbers 14-cc0xx and 14t-cc000 model series.
You have the 14-baOxx model series, so a NVMe drive wouldn't work.
Someday, you can remove the 4 GB chip and install an 8 GB chip in its place.
Definitely go for a SSD...either replace the existing drive with a 2.5" SATA one or install the M.2 SATA SSD.
There would be no difference in performance so whichever you think would be easier to do, go for it.

is the 8GB + 8GB the maximum config it can support? i found a ytube video (see link below) for the exact same model of mine (ba064tx) upgraded RAM to 16GB (placed on one slot, the other slot is vacant). if that's the case, I think I can go for 16GB + 16GB config?

Hi:
I guess you can experiment and see if you add the 16 GB chip and leave the 4 GB chip in there and if the notebook boots up and reports 20 GB of memory and works fine, then yes, I would say you can go with 2 x 16 GB of memory.
The processor and chipset your notebook has supports that amount of memory but the manual and crucial memory report state the max is 16 GB, and Crucial usually will give the max amount even if the service manual states a lower amount.
But that looks promising.
