HP ENVY x360 15 Convertible PC 15-es2000 (4V391AV)
Microsoft Windows 11

My laptop HP ENVY x360 Convertible 15-es2xxx (Product number : 643S1UA#ABA) comes with 16GB RAM onboard.

I ran CMD as Admin using command wmic memphysical get maxcapacityEx and found that it can take up to 32GB

I would like to know:

(1) what is the spec of the RAM I need to purchase?

(2) I assume that this laptop has 2 slots for 16GB each - is this correct?

Thank you in advance for your help

Hi @NSIW007,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

For your HP ENVY x360 Convertible 15-es2xxx with product number 643S1UA#ABA, here’s how you can determine the RAM specifications and slots:

1. RAM Specifications

To ensure compatibility, you'll need to match the specifications of the new RAM with the existing RAM in your laptop. Here’s what you should consider:

  • Type: The RAM type for most modern laptops is DDR4, but it's always good to verify this in the laptop’s manual or specifications.
  • Speed: Common DDR4 speeds are 2400 MHz and 2666 MHz. You can use the wmic memorychip get speed command in Command Prompt to check the current speed of your installed RAM.
  • Form Factor: For laptops, you need SO-DIMM RAM, which is smaller than the DIMM RAM used in desktops.

To find the exact specifications:

Check Current RAM Specifications:

  • Open Command Prompt as an Administrator.
  • Use the command wmic memorychip get capacity, speed, deviceLocator, manufacturer to see details about your current RAM.

Consult HP's Official Documentation:

  • Visit the HP Support website and search for your laptop model (15-es2xxx) to find detailed specifications and compatible RAM modules.

2. RAM Slots and Maximum Capacity

Regarding the number of slots:

Slots: Many laptops come with two RAM slots. To confirm if your laptop has two slots, you can use tools like CPU-Z or check the laptop’s service manual. If you don’t have the manual, it might be available on HP’s support site.

Maximum Capacity: If the system’s maximum capacity is 32GB, it’s likely you can use two 16GB modules (if there are two slots available).

To check the number of slots:

Use CPU-Z:

  • Download and install CPU-Z.
  • Open CPU-Z and go to the Memory tab. It will show the number of memory slots and how many are currently occupied.

Check the Service Manual:

  • HP often provides detailed specifications and slot information in the service manual available on their support website.

Summary

RAM Specifications:

  • Type: DDR4 SO-DIMM.
  • Speed: Match the current speed (e.g., 2400 MHz or 2666 MHz).
  • Capacity: Up to 32GB (two 16GB modules if there are two slots).

Slots:

  • Most likely two slots, but verify using CPU-Z or the service manual.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

Hi Experts,

On board, it has 12th Gen Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-1260P.

In checking, it says Core i7-1260P has 18 MB of L3 cache and operates at 2.1 GHz by default, but can boost up to 4.7 GHz, depending on the workload.

It's a pity, there is no DDR4 with 4700 MHz, but I guess I can make do with 3200 MHz.  Do you think either one of these DDR4 will work?

- Crucial RAM 32GB Kit (2x16GB) DDR4 3200MHz CL22 (or 2933MHz or 2666MHz) Laptop Memory CT2K16G4SFRA32...

- LinkMore 32GB Kit (2 x 16GB) DDR4 3200MH SODIMM (PC4-25600) CL22 1.2V Laptop Memory Module

Thanks in advance.
