Hi all,
Hope your well I have a basic entry level notebook HP 15s-fq0028na (6T9T0EA) and was looking to see if I could upgrade as I the laptop is sluggish.
I have used crucial as suggested by someone but nothing on there.
Now 4GB of RAM is used by 89% so not good. So looking to see how much more I can upgrade. Intel website says 8gb for my processor but HP Support Assistant says 32gb not that I want that much. And any better storage for the laptop.
Any help will be,appreciated.
Thank you all.
Regards

Hi:
I believe that this is the service manual that also covers your notebook's model series.
Maintenance and Service Guide HP 15 Laptop PC
Two things to note:
Notebooks with the Pentium Silver processors only have one memory slot and if the HP support assistant is telling you 32 GB is supported, then the notebook probably will support 1 x 16 GB of memory.
You can confirm that by running this command:
1. In the search box, search for cmd and click Run as administrator.
This will open the command prompt.
2. Once command prompt is opened, type wmic memphysical get maxcapacityEx and hit enter.
There, it will show the maximum RAM capacity your PC's motherboard can support.
The capacity is shown as Kilobytes, so you have to convert it to Gigabytes by dividing the number provided in the report by 1,048,576.
It the report indicates 33,xxx,xxx then I think a 16 GB chip will work despite the Intel processor specs.
You can go with the 8 GB or 16 GB memory chip that Crucial recommends for the model series.

If the DDR4-3200 memory chip costs less than the DDR4-2400 memory chip, then you should be fine with one of those.
Notebooks with the Pentium Silver processors only support SATA M.2 SSD's not NVMe.
Your only option would be to replace the 128 GB M.2 SSD with one having a greater storage capacity.
Look into one of the Western Digital Blue SA510 M.2 SATA SSD models which have decent read/write speeds.
As far as taking the notebook apart is concerned, I found this very good video online last year when I tried to help another forum member with upgrading that model series.

Hi Paul,
Thanks for taking the time and coming back to me really appreciate it.
I find this a stange/odd laptop. With things all over the place. In some places the model comes out as 15s-fq0028na and some others as 15s-fq-0000.
Not sure if you noticed the processer is compatible upto 2400mhz RAM yet the laptop has a 4gb 3200mjz one on. Weird.

You're very welcome.
this is the new way that HP labels its products which makes it very difficult for us to help folks when they post the 15s-du2xxx for example and not the 15s-du2002tu, for which we can look up the product specifications.
Basically, the 15s-fq0000 is the model number for the entire series, and the 15s-fq0028na is the specific model number of your notebook within that series.
I imagine that your notebook got a DDR4-3200 memory chip because that is what HP had on hand at the time.
The faster memory automatically bridges/downclocks to the speed the processor can run the memory at which in the case of your notebook's processor, is 2400 MHz.
Cheers,
Paul

The problem with running scans and reports is the program is picking up the circuitry for a second memory slot that isn't there.
So, if it is indicating 32 GB, it is assuming two slots of 16 GB each.
As I wrote earlier, you can install 1 x 8 GB of memory for sure and most likely 1 x 16 GB.
