15-r036ds
Microsoft Windows 8.1 (64-bit)

So I'll start by saying I know nothing about computers.. Literally nothing-so I'll apologize in advance if my questions are so dumb it hurts..  I have this computer-15-r036ds 4GB DDR3L SDRAM (1DIMM) Celeron N2920 Windows 8.1. -I bought this a few years ago to use Affinity Designer on and do basic computer-y things.  Long story short...my kids really have enjoyed using it.  As you can imagine-its as slow as can be.. Using Affinity is quite frustrating as it keeps freezing up/lagging every minute or 2.  For sanity reasons.. I'm wondering if upgrading it to 8GB RAM will help at all.. Or if its just not worth it?  I have rather limited resources.. And need to go the most cost effective.. Yet still effective route.  I have also been considering a tablet PC (8GB RAM i5 8th gen) and am wondering if that would be worth spending the money on.. Or if its not gonna be a whole lot better/faster/smoother running.. Especially Affinity.  Thank you for any help or advice you can give..

Welcome to the HP Support Community  @Kristen9

Adding more memory can help but try this first:

First thing would be to do a Disk Cleanup.

 Disk Cleanup.PNG

Check everything except Delivery Optimization Files

Then do a Disk Defrag. “OPTIMIZE”

 Defrag.PNG

Then go to Advanced System Settings.

 Advanced Settings.PNG

In the Performance box click on SETTINGS.

 Performance settings.PNG

Click on Adjust for Best Performance.

 Best Performance.PNG

Click on APPLY.

Then reboot.
