Hi,

I just got my new HP laptop a few weeks ago, and while I am satisfied for the most part, it is ridiculously slow. I've traced it to abnormally high disk write rates, to which I responded with removing as many non-essential software as possible.

Checking its specifications at https://support.hp.com/ph-en/document/c05536813#AbT0 (Mine is basically the same but different color, in case you're wondering about the slightly different model number), it says that it carries only 1 stick of 4GB 2133MHz RAM (But using Speccy, the clock rate doesn't seem to go above 1666GHz). I am thinking of adding another stick, maybe 8GB, to help improve its performance.

My questions are:

Can I insert another stick of RAM there? If so, what brand should I use? And how should I go about it, since it seems difficult to remove the back panel?

Thanks!

Hi,

You can use a 8GB module with the one already in the system without any problems. I believe that HP uses Samsung and Hynix RAM. You can use the brand you prefer such as Crucial, Kingston.

Example:

https://www.amazon.com/Crucial-Single-PC4-19200-Unbuffered-260-Pin/dp/B019FREJOQ/ref=sr_1_3?rps=1&ie...

Hope it helps,

David

Hi,

Your PC supports max 16GB of DDR4-2133 SDRAM (2x8GB) .

This is what the PC has been tested with. It will support up to 32 GB of RAM. So there are two slots and you can insert an 8GB stick in the free slot. You should use 2400Mhz RAM which will run at 2133Mhz.

On page 1 and 32 of service manual you can see various configurations and steps to upgrade RAM.

You can also look at these HP videos for your model which can help with the upgrade

Thank you very much! I won't have the time to check things out until the next weekend, but it seems like the manual is just what I needed. I hope you don't mind a couple of follow-up questions though:

  1. What brand is used by HP for its memory module, or what you would recommend?
  2. Would there be a problem mixing an 8GB RAM module with the 4GB already installed?

Thanks!
