I have an HP15s-eq1013ni (product number 2C7G7EA) that I bought in October 2021. It came with 8GB RAM. I've started using some new apps and have found that there's not enough RAM. I contacted HP support to ask about RAM upgrade, and they told me that the RAM cannot be upgraded. Surely that not right! I've seen the same model advertised with 64GB RAM, so that can't be right can it?

Hi:
HP only has the service manual for the older 15s-eq0xxx model series.
Maintenance and Service Guide HP 15 Laptop PC
According to chapter 1 of the manual, the older model series can support up to 2 x 8 GB of memory.
The memory can be upgraded. You can find the memory removal and replacement procedure in chapter 5 of the manual.
Your model can probably support at least 2 x 16 GB of DDR4-2666 MHz or 3200 MHz memory.
You can do this to see how much memory your notebook can actually support.
1. In the search box, search for cmd and click Run as administrator.
This will open the command prompt.
2. Once command prompt is opened, type wmic memphysical get maxcapacityEx and hit enter.
There, it will show the maximum RAM capacity your PC's motherboard can support.
The capacity is shown as Kilobytes, so you have to convert it to Gigabytes by dividing the number provided in the report by 1,048,576.

Thanks very much, I did what you said and this shows that the motherboard accepts 32GB.
If I were to upgrade, must the memory in both slots be equal? Can I leave 4GB in one slot and replace the other 4GB with 8GB?

You're very welcome.
Yes, you can add an 8 GB chip in the empty slot and have 12 GB.
The 12 GB will run in single channel mode like it is now with a single 4 GB chip.
In order for the memory to run in dual channel mode, you need to install the memory in matching capacities (2 x 4 GB, 2 x 8 GB, 2 x 16 GB).
