Hi all,
Hoping someone might be able to help. I have tried to upgrade my laptop from 8gb to 16gb ram using these two Ram sticks: https://uk.crucial.com/memory/ddr4/ct2k8g4sfra266/ct18806349 The problem is that if I install both sticks, the laptop goes to a black screen (unresponsive with fan still running) shortly after booting up. If I install either of the new one 8gb sticks into memory slot one, and keep one of the original 4gb sticks in slot two, the laptop runs fine. It doesn't matter which of the new 8gb sticks is installed in memory slot one so I assume the sticks are fine?
Any ideas why installing both 8gb sticks is causing problems?
For info, I have just completed a fresh install from an HP recovery usb and all the windows and HP updates have been completed.
Any help would be much appreciated!

Welcome to our HP User Forum!
On first sight, the RAM you purchased should work and achieve at least 2400 MHz RAM speed as per HP Pavilion - 15-cw0509sa Product Specifications | HP® Customer Support.
However, digging up HP-provided product specification is challenging. Therefore, please type in System Information in your Windows search bar, left-click on the System Information App, and provide the information listed to the right of "System SKU" and "BaseBoard Product", as it will help me to answer your question.

Thank you, that was helpful. What I found out is that your L22762-001 motherboard "UMA Ryzen5 2500U 84E7" as per http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c06248787, is applying different RAM speeds depending on brand and model.
Most RAM on HP Pavilion 15-cw0509sa laptop platforms run at 2400 MHz, but some RAM manages to achieve 2666 MHz, although -to make it more confusing, some of the same RAM is stuck at 2400 MHz whereas the same RAM runs at 2666 MHz on another HP Pavilion 15-cw0509sa laptop -for example: Samsung M471A1K43CB1-CTD 2x8GB @ 2400 MHz AND Samsung M471A1K43CB1-CTD @ 2666 MHz. The only other RAM I was able to find that runs at 2666 MHz was Crucial CT8G4SFS8266.M8FD @ 2666 MHz.
Here are other RAM also running at 2400 MHz (even though some of them could run at 2666 MHz but doesn't/can't):
Crucial CT8G4SFS824A.M8FD @ 2400 MHz
Hynix HMA81GS6MFR8N-UH @ 2400 MHz
Hynix HMA81GS6CJR8N-VK 2x8GB @ 2400 MHz
Kingston HyperX DDR4 2666 C15 2x8GB KHX2666C15S4/8G @ 2400 MHz
Kingston HP24D4S7S8MBP-8 2x8GB @ 2400 MHz
Corsair Vengeance SODIM DDR4 2666 C18 2x8GB CMSX16GX4M2A2666C18 @ 2400 MHz
Reference: https://www.userbenchmark.com/System/HP-Pavilion-Laptop-15-cw0xxx/91333.
Some Users manage to achieve 2666 MHz max RAM speed. Either it is luck of the draw, or these Users found a way to adjust/maximize RAM speed through XMP.
That's all I can tell you at the moment.
Kind Regards,
