Hello All,
When I got my machine it only came with 8gb ram, but with two slots and maximum capacity of 32gb.
I bought the recommended ram from Crucial, 2x16gb and went ahead with the process of installing them.
However I found when installing any stick other than that which came into the machine in slot 1, it would not recognize the upgrade.
Both 16gb sticks work in slot 2, but slot 1 only accepts the original 8gb factory installed. Giving me 24gb total.
Can anyone provide any insight as to why this might be happening? Is there a limit on the size slot 1 can handle?

@retrocascade You would see when you click on the link shared earlier and visit page number 40 that the memory modules are no customer self replaceable parts as per documentation, which means you'll need to take the device to an HP authorized service center and they'll do it for you, also, here's what you should see on that page:
NOTE: Primary and expansion memory is installed in a side-by-side conƭguration in the bottom of the computer. If only one memory module is installed, it must be installed in the socket labeled “1”.
NOTE: Two additional memory slots are available under the system board. These are not customer selfrepair parts.
If you wish to proceed on your own:
IMPORTANT: Before adding new memory, make sure you update the computer to the latest BIOS. Go to www.hp.com, then select Support, and then Software & drivers to download the latest BIOS.
IMPORTANT: Failure to update the computer to the latest BIOS before installing new memory may result in various system problems.

@retrocascade The Ram upgrade only works when the following criteria is met, also, the ram slots aren't customer replaceable as per page. 40 Chapter 5 (Removal and replacement procedures for Customer Self-Repair parts) of the service and maintenance guide for your device.

Thanks this is useful.
The setup I was trying to achieve is shown on the list in your snap shot. I'm certainly not wanting to replace the slots for the ram, but I would like to replace the factory installed ram if that's possible.
Currently my machine has:
Slot 1: 8GB HP Ram (Factory Installed)
Slot 2: 16GB Crucial Ram DDR4 2666
ideally I'd like to replace the card in Slot 1 to match Slot 2. Resulting in the 32GB setup as listed in your screen shot.
