Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Looking to buy this model, which is only available with 8GB RAM. The specification says it has 8 GB DDR4-2666 SDRAM (1 x 8 GB) and 2 SODIMM memory slots. So you'd think upgrading to 16GB is possible, and in fact an 8GB module if offered as an accessory.

However I've read that, because there are no access doors on the underside, it is difficult to do things like RAM upgrades.

Is such an upgrade recommended?

Can you confirm the upgrade to 16GB is possible, and what the procedure would be?

Hi:

Yes, you would be able to install another 8 GB memory module in your notebook.

You notebook can take a max of 2 x 16 GB of memory.

Below is the link to the service manual where you can find the memory upgrade info (chapter 1), and the memory removal and replacement procedure (chapter 5).

Thanks very much Paul,

The table in Chapter 1 on supported memory configs includes 2x16GB but not 2x8GB.

Strangely, it says 8GB+4GB is supported.

Can I just assume the documentation is wrong, and add the second 8GB as I think you are saying?

The fitting procedure in Chapter 5 seems straightforward if tedious.

Would doing this invalidate the warranty?

Is there a way to get HP to supply the product upgraded to 16GB?

Regards, George

You're very welcome, George.

Yes, the 2 x 8 GB configuration must have been mistakenly omitted from the manual.

There would be absolutely no reason why 2 x 8 GB of memory would not work.

Since this is a peer to peer forum, we are not permitted to discuss warranty terms on behalf of HP, but in general, you will not void the warranty unless you break something in the process of upgrading the memory.

If you look at the important note right after the chapter 5 heading, it indicates you can void the warranty, not will.

IMPORTANT: Components described in this chapter should only be accessed by an authorized service
provider. Accessing these parts can damage the computer or void the warranty.
