What would the effect of the different last digit of the part number be on being able to buy only one 691740-005 4 Gig card to go in the second slot?
2). When I checked the factory RAM to determine its configuration, I followed the user instructions to remove and replace the card. However, the laptop will not boot up. When I turn on the Lee switch, it beeps three times, pauses, and beeps three times again for several cycles. The led by the caps lock key is blinking. Even after the beeping stops, the monitor stays dark. It almost seems as if the card is not seated deep enough in the slot, but if I push it in farther, it will not rotate downward to lock in place. I was very careful to avoid any static and the computer was turned off and the power cord removed. Do the symptoms indicate a damaged memory card? If so, I will order two 4 Gig cards, but what did I do wrong?
Thank you.

Hi,
Your PC supports max 12GB of DDR3L-1600 MHz RAM (1x8GB + 1x4GB)
You can insert 2x4GB without any problem. You do not need to buy the RAM with HP part number. You can buy RAM online or local store (Crucial, Kingston, Corsair...) as long as it is DDR3L 1600Mhz
Example:
The stick which is not working could be damaged by static if you touched the chips on RAM. Have you tried in both slots?
On page 6 of service manual you can see various configurations for RAM

Hope it helps,
