HP Pavilion x360 Convertible Laptop PC 14-dw1000 (1W802AV)
Microsoft Windows 11

Hello there,
I own an HP Pavilion x360 Convertible 14-dw1039TU, but my product is recognized differently as PC 14-dw1000.
My computer specs are 14-dw1039TU, SKU 2R2H6PA#ACJ, motherboard 87F5, BIOS F.56.
It currently has 2 × 4 GB Samsung DDR4-3200 SODIMM modules. Windows SMBIOS reports a maximum capacity of 32 GB and two memory devices.
Can I upgrade to 2 × 16 GB DDR4-3200 SODIMM modules?
Is this configuration supported by the motherboard and BIOS?
Also I would like to kneo if I can upgrade into a 24 GB RAM, into mismatched chip pairs.
Thank you.

Hi:

Your 14-dw1039TU notebook is a member of the 14-dw1000 model series which consists of many different models.

You can see from the parts list that the 2R2H6PA identifies it as a member of the 14-dw1000 model series.

HP PartSurfer

If the report you ran shows the notebook can support 32 GB of memory, you should be able to install 2 x 16 GB of DDR4-3200 CL22 memory in your notebook.

You can run 24 GB in the notebook, but it will not run in the better performing dual channel mode with mismatched memory chips.

I would not buy an 8 GB memory chip if installing 32 GB is your ultimate goal.

If you want to install the 16 GB chips incrementally, best to just leave one of the 4 GB chips installed and have 20 GB.

You can download the service manual for the previous 14-dw0xxx model series from the link below:

Thank you for your response. I checked the official HP PartSurfer record for my exact product number (2R2H6PA).

It identifies the product as HP Pavilion x360 Convertible Laptop PC 14-dw1000 and lists the motherboard as:

M21494-001 — MOTHERBOARD UMA i5-1135G7 fWWAN

The Memory section of this particular PartSurfer record lists:

  • L83673-005 — SODIMM 4GB DDR4-3200 1.2V

However, the broader 14-dw1000 Maintenance and Service Guide lists a 16GB DDR4-3200 memory module (L67710-005).

My laptop's SMBIOS report also indicates:

  • MaxCapacity: 33554432 KB (32 GB)

  • MemoryDevices: 2

Could you please confirm whether motherboard M21494-001 supports 2 × 16GB DDR4-3200 SODIMMs?

Specifically, has this motherboard been tested successfully with 32GB, or is there an official HP memory configuration or compatibility limitation that I should be aware of?

I would appreciate confirmation before purchasing the RAM.

Thank you.

You're very welcome.

I cannot find any info on this forum where anyone even tried to install 32 GB of memory in the model series.

The couple of posts I found were asking if the memory could be upgraded to 2 x 8 GB, and no one even reported doing that successfully.

The Crucial memory report for the model series indicates it can support 32 GB of memory, and even goes on to indicate it can support 64 GB of memory.

But based on the 32 GB motherboard report you ran, I am a bit skeptical about the 64 GB max.

I understand your concerns about wanting confirmation before spending a huge amount of money for memory in today's environment, but based on the lack of info, I cannot 100% unequivocally guarantee that 32 GB of memory will work.

The only suggestion I can offer would be to take the same route I suggested to the forum member in the discussion below...buy one 16 GB memory chip and see what happens.
