No removable drive is recognized by my laptop. Have tried all options of which I can think.
Okay. I have a SAN Disk USB DRIVE 16GB AND AN LITE ON CD/DVD READER BOTH ARE NOT RECOGNISED IN MY HP Pavilion TS Sleekbook 14. IT USED TO RECOGNISED BEFORE THIS BUT NOW IT FAILS ON MY PC RUNNING ON WINDOWS 8.1 64 BIT.
1. I have tried unplugging all other USB devices before trying this one. FAIL
2. I have gone to Device Management and the USB drive does not appear in the list. FAIL
3. I have uninstalled the USB Root Hubs and restarted the computer. FAIL
4. I have tried plugging the USB drive into the rear ports that plug directly into the motherboard. FAIL
5. I have updated the drivers, and have been unable to find a BIOS update as the link on the HP website downloads and says that it is incompatible for my computer. FAIL
WHAT SHOULD I DO NOW??

Hi,
Try running HP hardware diagnostics on the PC and see if it gives any indication of hardware problems. You can do this from Windows or at boot.
Turn off PC by holding the power button until shutdown. Power on the PC and press ESC continuously until the startup menu appears and then press F2 to enter diagnostics.

You can perform a component test on USB.
Does USB work at boot. You could try creating a bootable USB drive on different PC. Such as downloading Linux Mint and using an application such as Rufus to create the bootable drive.
https://linuxmint.com/download.php
Try booting from drive. (press ESC at start and then F9 to enter boot menu) This way we can see if it is a problem with the OS.
Can you also provide the exact model or product number
Let me know,
David
