hey all, I want to upgrade my 14-an090nr and install a wireless card that is dual band 2.4 and 5ghz along with bluetooth 4.2
Has anyone had trouble with this?
when i search HP for my model's manual the one they provide covers a few different models of simmilar model #
the wlan cards listed are:
Realtek RTL8723BE-VB 802.11b/g/n 1x1 Wi-Fi + BT4.0 Combo Adapter
Intel Dual Band Wireless-AC 3165 802.11 ac 1x1 WiFi + BT 4.2 Combo
Realtek RTL8188EE-VJ 802.11b/g/n 1x1 Wi-Fi Adapter
Intel Dual Band Wireless-AC 3168 802.11 ac 1x1 WiFi + BT 4.2 Combo

Hi:
The problem you have is that there is only one antenna cable connected to the RTL8188EE wifi card.
All but one dual band wifi cards require two antenna cables be connected, or either the wifi or the bluetooth won't work.
There is only one model wifi card that I know of that will probably work in your situation, and that would be this one...
Realtek RTL8821CE 802.11 ac 1x1 Wi-Fi + Bluetooth 4.2 Combo Adapter (MU-MIMO supported) HP Part # L17365-005
The card is on back order at the HP parts store.
The only place I have been able to find any of those is on eBay.

hey,
Thank you for responding to my question. and sorry for being so late with my response... school has me crazy busy.
Im not worried about the extra antenna, i have a few of different lengths from other laptops, so long as theres room for 1 more i can run it up the screen housing.
My biggest concern before spending the money is that the system wont accept the card. Ive read a little about the bios being an issue for other hp laptop owners when upgrading their wifi adapters.
Thanks Paul

You're very welcome.
There shouldn't be a BIOS whitelist, but no one on this forum can 100% guarantee there isn't, because that information is not available.
The only way we know that unsupported wifi cards work is if someone installs one and reports yay or nay.
Most folks are willing to roll the dice on a $20 card.
If you are concerened with wasting your money, only buy one of the cards listed in the service manual, and the card you buy must have the HP part number on it, or it will not work.
