Microsoft Windows 11

Hello,
I'm experiencing an issue with my NVIDIA RTX 3050 Ti GPU. In Device Manager, the GPU shows up with a yellow exclamation mark, and under the device status, it states: "Windows has stopped this device because it has reported problems. (Code 43)."

Here’s what I’ve tried so far to resolve the issue:

Uninstalling and reinstalling the drivers multiple times, including using the NVIDIA Cleanup Tool to completely remove the drivers.

Reinstalling the drivers directly from the NVIDIA website.

Contacting NVIDIA support, where I followed their step-by-step instructions for reinstalling the drivers, but the issue persisted. They suggested that the problem might be related to the hardware and advised me to contact the manufacturer.

Despite the drivers being installed correctly, when I try to access the NVIDIA app, I receive a message that says I need to install a driver, even though it's already installed.

The problem remains unresolved, and I'm not sure why this is happening. Could anyone provide some guidance or suggestions on how to proceed?

Thank you in advance.

Hi @BetterCallMad,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding your PC!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

Try these steps:

Start by verifying that your Windows 11 operating system is fully up to date. Navigate to the Windows Update section in the Settings menu, check for any available updates, and install them. Restart your device afterward to apply the updates effectively.

If you suspect an issue with your GPU drivers, consider performing a clean installation. Begin by downloading the latest drivers for the NVIDIA RTX 3050 Ti from NVIDIA's official website. Enter Safe Mode by using the System Configuration tool (accessed with "Windows + R," typing "msconfig," and enabling Safe Boot). Use a utility like Display Driver Uninstaller (DDU) to completely remove existing drivers and ensure no residual files remain. Then, reinstall the drivers using the custom installation option and select "Perform a Clean Installation" to ensure a fresh setup. Be sure to restart your laptop after completion.

It's also worth checking if a BIOS update is available for your laptop. Visit the HP Support website, locate your specific laptop model, and download the latest BIOS version. Updating the BIOS can often address compatibility issues with hardware like GPUs. Restart your system post-update.

To assess the functionality of your GPU, open the Task Manager and examine GPU activity under the Performance tab. If the GPU displays 0% usage or appears disabled, it might indicate a potential hardware issue.

Lastly, conduct a thorough diagnostic test using the HP Hardware Diagnostics tool. During a restart, access the tool by pressing F2, and run a Graphics Card Test to evaluate the condition of your GPU.

Let me know if you need any further clarification!

Hi @BetterCallMad,

Thank you for the response.

I see that you've tried multiple troubleshooting steps, but the Code 43 error persists. Since the issue keeps returning after restarts, it could be a hardware-related problem. Here’s what I recommend next:

Check BIOS Settings: Ensure that the GPU is enabled in the BIOS. Sometimes, discrete GPUs get disabled automatically.

Power and Connection Issues: If you're using a laptop, try running it with and without the battery (just on AC power) to see if the GPU behavior changes.

Thermal Issues: Overheating can cause the GPU to be disabled by the system. Check if your laptop is running unusually hot.

I hope this helps.
