Hello

I want to upgrade my current Ram configuration which is 8 gb ddr4 to a higher Ram capacity with dual channel support, in Hp manual they recommend the following configuration:

  • 12288 MB (8192 MB × 1 + 4096 × 1)
  •  8192 MB (8192 MB × 1)
  • 6144 MB (4096 MB× 1 + 2048 MB × 1)
  • 4096 MB (4096 MB × 1)

my question is: do the previous configurations support dual channel mode if they were mixed considering other parameters were matched like same speed, voltage, timing and brand) even though they  have  mixed sizes like the 8 plus 4 , or do I need to go with the same size which means adding another 8 GB to get a configuration which supports dual channel mode ?

None of the following configurations run dual mode

  1. 12288 MB (8192 MB × 1 + 4096 × 1)
  2.  8192 MB (8192 MB × 1)
  3. 6144 MB (4096 MB× 1 + 2048 MB × 1)
  4. 4096 MB (4096 MB × 1)

For 2,  you can add SAME 8GB to slot 2 to have 16GB and it will run dual mode

Same for 4, you can add SAME 4GB to slot 2 to have 8GB and it will run dual mode

Regards.
