Hi @skyss0fly,
Welcome to the HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.
Great question! Your HP 14s-dq3132TU Laptop is part of the HP 14s-dq3xxx series, and yes, you can upgrade the RAM, but there are a few important details to keep in mind.
RAM Upgrade Specifications for HP 14s-dq3132TU
- RAM Slots: 1 SODIMM slot (single channel)
- Maximum Supported RAM: 16 GB DDR4
- Pre-installed RAM: Usually comes with 8 GB DDR4-3200 MHz
- Compatible RAM Type:
- DDR4 SODIMM
- 3200 MHz (PC4-25600)
- Non-ECC, Unbuffered
⚠️ Since there's only one slot, upgrading means replacing the existing RAM stick, not adding another.
Tools You’ll Need:
- Small Phillips screwdriver
- Plastic pry tool (optional but helpful)
- Anti-static wrist strap (recommended)
Step-by-Step Guide: (Important note: This needs to be performed only by a Store or HP Authorized person):
- Power off and unplug your laptop.
- Flip the laptop and remove the back panel screws.
- Use a plastic pry tool to gently open the bottom cover.
- Locate the RAM slot — it’s usually under a metal shield.
- Release the side clips to eject the current RAM stick.
- Align the new RAM stick with the notch and insert it at a 45° angle, then press down until it clicks.
- Reassemble the laptop and power it on.
After Installation
- Press F10 during boot to enter BIOS and confirm the new RAM is detected.
- You can also check in Windows Task Manager > Performance > Memory.
I hope this helps.
Take care, and have an amazing day!

Hi, Apologies for the late reply, i was wondering where i can purchase ram sticks compatible for this model? i currently have 4gb of ram installed on this laptop and want to upgrade highest ram and cpu as possible. also is it possible to integrate a fan into the laptop as it has no build in fan and the cpu throttles quite a lot which is annoying when i am programming and things freeze up

That's alright @skyss0fly.
Thanks for getting back to us.
You're wise to seek a solid, professional solution for your HP 14s‑dq3132TU—let's improve performance without compromising safety.
RAM Upgrade Compatibility – HP 14s-dq3132TU
Your laptop includes:
One SODIMM slot
Pre-installed with 4 GB DDR4-2933 MHz
Supports up to 16 GB DDR4-3200 MHz, non-ECC, unbuffered RAM
To upgrade, you’ll need to replace the current module (not add to it). A single 16 GB DDR4-3200 MHz SODIMM will give you the maximum memory supported.
How to Install the RAM
Power down the laptop completely and unplug the charger.
Use a small Phillips screwdriver to remove the back panel (some models have hidden screws under rubber feet).
Locate the RAM slot and gently release the side clips holding the current module.
Remove the old RAM stick at a 45° angle.
Insert the new RAM module at the same 45° angle and press down until it clicks into place.
Replace the panel and power on the laptop.
On startup, press F10 to enter BIOS and confirm the new memory is detected, or check via Task Manager → Performance → Memory once Windows loads.
Cooling and Thermal Throttling
Your laptop uses a passive cooling design, meaning:
It does not include a built-in fan
The chassis dissipates heat on its own
The CPU (Intel Celeron N4500) may throttle under heavy workloads like programming or multitasking
Internal fan installation is not supported:
No fan headers or mounts exist inside the chassis
Attempting to add one internally would risk hardware damage and void warranty
What You Can Do to Reduce Heat
Use a high-quality cooling pad
Actively pulls heat away from the bottom of the laptop
Helps stabilize performance during prolonged use
Keep vents clear
Place the laptop on flat, hard surfaces — avoid soft surfaces like beds or couches
Limit background apps
Freeing up CPU resources can reduce load and help keep temps in check
Monitor system temperature
Use software tools to track CPU temperature and identify apps that cause spikes
