I have an HP 15-bs179TX series laptop. Intel core i5 8250U processor.
I checked for processor ram max capacity on intel website, it's 32gb.
And motherboard max ram capacity using command prompt (using command: wmic memphysical get maxcapacity), it also gave 32 GB as output, 2 ram slots.
But the crucial website mentions the max ram capacity as 16GB.
I want to upgrade to 32GB ram (16 per slot). Will my system support 16GB per slot SODIMM DDR4 2400MHz?

Hi:
I don't see any posts where someone has installed 32 GB of memory in that model series, but it is definitely possible based on the information you posted.
Chapter 1 of the service manual indicates the max memory is 2 x 8 GB.

If you want to experiment, I would buy 1x16 GB and add it to the existing memory.
If the notebook boots up fine, reports 24 GB of memory, works fine, then you can go ahead and add the second 16 GB memory chip.
This would be a compatible 16 GB DDR4-2666 memory chip for your PC assuming 32 GB is supported.
The DDR4-2400 chip is considerably more expensive and the DDR4-2666 will automatically bridge to 2400 MHz.

Hi Paul,
Thanks for your reply.
As suggested, I took the laptop to a vendor who used a 16GB Local Brand 2666 MHz compatible ram along with 8 GB samsung ram. And my system booted and was reflecting 24GB on CPU-Z and windows system settings.
The memory that you suggested was having latency 19 and maybe that's why it cost a little less, while the one I shared for was of latency 17.
Now I guess it would be fine if I go ahead and buy the 2400MHz kit for 32 GB (2X16GB).

Hi Paul,
I bought 2X16Gb ram sticks from amazon which were suggested by crucial. It works on my laptop and shows 32gb ram in total.
I have a query regarding the ram module that I bought. The ram stick casing has crucial sticker on it but the actual chips on the ram stick are from SK Hynix. Also, the CPU Z app shows the manufacturer as SK Hynix. Is this a fake ram? Shouldn't the manufacturer by Micron Technology?

Hi:
Yes, the memory chips should have been from Crucial or Micron on any report you run.
Since the memory is working fine, I would not be overly concerned.
You may want to contact Crucial and ask them about it.
HP uses SK Hynix memory in many of their PC's.
