Hello Everyone! I want to upgrade ram in my HP Pavillion Gaming 15 - ec1xxx. It already has a 8 gig stick installed. I'm confused about what frequency should i buy. In the task manager, it shows 3200mhz in the ram section but in CPUz it shows as "DDR4-3200 (1600MHz)". Can someone please tell me what frequency ram should i buy and what should be it's CAS latency? Thanks.Ram 2.JPG

@NavneetB1,

Welcome to our HP User Forum!

No worries, 3200 MHz RAM shows up as "1600 MHz" (half the RAM's speed) because what you see is the RAM's clock speed at half the speed, hence it is showing as 1600 MHz, but the actual RAM's bandwidth is doubled (DDR = Double Data Rate) and thus the effective RAM speed is 3200 MHz.

Stick with the 3200 MHz RAM.

Kind Regards,

If your system has  has a frequency of 3200 ram, then you will have to take ram with frequency of 3200 only it would give you a better dual channel operation and  it's not necessary to have same brand, but RAM should be DDR 4 with 3200 speed.

remember if you your system has 8 GB ram currently with the speed of 3200 then you can upgrade to another 8 GB ram with 3200 speed   8+8 ram upgrade  do not upgrade with 4gb ram

I am giving this advice because recently my friend who had in 8Gb ram has upgraded to an another 8 GB of different brand but with same speed frequency he is able to run it smoothly.
