Hp elitebook 820 G1

Hello,

I was trying to upgrade the memory of my HP EliteBook 820 G1 (I3-4010U). According to HP the laptop accepts DDR3L so-dimm, so I purchased a pair of Samsung 2rx8 PC3L-12800S-11-11-F3, ddr3l ram modules. I could find no further specifications as to the specific memory type from HPs website.

The problem is that the computer displays "ddr3 ram not supported" although the new memory modules are ddr3l and 1.35 V.

Can this be resolved with a BIOS update perhaps?

Thanks in advance!

/John

"Can this be resolved with a BIOS update perhaps?"

Unfortunately, that is unlikely.

The reason the modules do not run is that upgrading memory in a PC is more complex than just buying the type of memory that is supported. One of the modules you purchased could also be faulty.

In order for an upgrade to be painless, the memory modules that are purchased for an upgrade need to be guaranteed compatible.  The reason is that the Vdimm and the primary and secondary timings must be within tight specifications that are not supplied by HP.
