HP Gaming Pavilion - 15-cx0178tx

I am clarifying my other post. Sorry.

I think my ram slot 2 is broken.

I had an Adata 8GB 2400 MHz and the original RAM stick in two slots at one time. My original ram is an 8GB 2666 MHz.

I'm not sure what happened, but it was fine until I opened 16 web browser tabs. The laptop crashed, and the Caps lock beeped 3 long 2 short.

I tried taking the Adata ram out and putting the original ram in slot 1, the laptop runs normally.

Then I plugged Adata into slot 2, beep code 3.2 again.

After that, I tried Adata in slot 1, left slot 2 empty, the laptop runs normally.

Did RAM incompatibility break my RAM slot?

Is there a solution to this? I would appreciate every help.

If the Voltage requirements for the two different memory modules is not identical it is possible that you caused an issue with the slot. The system board and BIOS  of your notebook require 1.2v modules.

You can find the VDimm (module voltage requirement)  on the sticker on each module.

Odd things like this happening is why many of us recommend updating with a pair of guaranteed compatible modules.

Otherwise, removing the original module and using the single larger capacity guaranteed module in that same, now empty, module slot.

Upgrading with a pair, unless an absolutely identical memory module is used for the upgrade.

You can replace the modules with a single 16 GB module.

Thank you for the help, I was also thinking about getting one large-capacity RAM stick and calling it done.

I do want to say that the Adata RAM stick is DDR4 2400(17) 8GX8 SO-DIMM 1.2V if that help others prevent something like this from happening to them.

One more question. It is safe to get a 32gb RAM stick for my computer right?

HP Recommended

I don't see any single memory modules of 32GB capacity that are guarantee compatible, so I will have to say no.

2 x 16 GB is the norm for achieving 32 GB of installed memory .
