Elite 1011 x2 G1
Microsoft Windows 8.1 (64-bit)

Hello,

I would like to know how to understand the following product description for the Elite 1011 X2 G1:

Memory 2 SODIMM slots DDR3L-1600MHz
Support for DDR3L-1600MHz
Support for dual channel
Supports up to 8192-MB maximum system memory
Supports 8192-MB (16-GB, 256-MB×16×4, qty 4) and 4096-MB (8-GB @ 128-MB×32×2, qty 4)
memory configurations

DDR3 memory is sold on ebay for exactly this model computer.

However, I was under the impression that the ram is soldered to the motherboard on this model.

But the product description mentioning 2 SODIMM slots is making me wonder.

So HP, could you please confirm that either the memory is all soldered, or that there are 2 SODIMM slots in which I could plug in memory? (or both).

I would really appreciate it if this could be clarified.

Kind regards.

This is an error in the writing of the Manual. Look at the specs for the system boards on page 21 and 22 of the Manual and you can see there are 4 gig and 8 gig system boards which is a dead giveaway the memory is soldered.

HP makes so many different models the department that writes the Manuals is under extreme deadline and production volume pressure and sometimes they just do not get it right.

Two slots on the motherboard.

The "Small Outline" physical size.

Double Data Rate version 3, with Low voltage specifications.

Send "clock-pulses" to the RAM at 1600 Mega Hertz.

> Support for dual channel

When you have 2 identical sticks, and the processor wants to write 32 bits to the RAM,

16 bits are sent to the first stick, and AT THE SAME TIME, the other 16 bits are sent to the second stick.

Obviously, faster than sending 32 bits to the first stick, while the second stick is "idle".

OK.

> Supports 8192-MB (16-GB, 256-MB×16×4, qty 4) and 4096-MB (8-GB @ 128-MB×32×2, qty 4) memory configurations

Supports one 8192 MB stick, that has 4 memory-chips on the stick -- 4 on one side, or 2 on each side of the stick,

leaving the other slot empty.

Supports two 4096 MB sticks, that has  4 memory-chips on the stick -- 4 on one side, or 2 on each side of the stick -- total of 8192 MB, and will support "dual-channel" mode.

Got a web-page that states that?

Does any manufacturer still do that?

I have seen motherboards where the processor was soldered-in.

Believe everything you read on the Internet.  Everything.

A very few of the volunteers are employed by HP, but they contribute here WITHOUT directly speaking on behalf of HP.

Hi Mdklassen,

Thank you for your reply!

However, I still have doubts about this as I csn't in the life of me find any ram slots on pictures of the motherboard. The same HP manual never shows them, never shows ram memory at all even, and no review mentions replacable ram.

If you can show me a picture of the MB with the location of the slots, I'd be convinced! See this site with pictures of the soldered ram:

I wanted to cobtact HP directly but the website seems to putpofully want to avoid clients contacting them, as I found no straightforward way to send a message other than this forum.

Kind regards

OK, thank you for the answer. This confirmed my suspicions.
