Hi:

The product specs for your notebook indicate that it comes with 2 x 4 GB of DDR4-3200 MHz memory.

In order to install 16 GB of memory, you would have to remove and replace both chips.

I normally recommend Crucial memory because they have reports that show compatible memory for many different model PC's.

Crucial indicates your notebook can support up to 64 GB of memory, which is probably way more that you would ever need.

16 GB or 32 GB should be plenty.

You can buy the compatible 8 or 16 GB part numbers on Amazon:

Below is the link to the service manual which is the only one that HP has for the model series:

The 15s-fq0xxx model series uses the same manual as the 15-dy0xxx model series.

Thank you for your reply Paul, just on the ram the 16gb which you linked is that for just one stick? Or do I need to get 2 x 8gb sticks thanks again

You're very welcome.

You need two of these if you want 16 GB to run in dual channel mode like the 8 GB of memory is now.

If you are contemplating installing 32 GB in the future, you can buy the single 16 GB chip that I posted above, leave one of the 4 GB chips in place and have 20 GB of memory running in single channel mode.

It will run in dual channel mode only with matching memory capacities installed (2 x 4 GB, 2 x 8 GB , 2 x 16 GB...).
