I recently bought a RAM (4 GB 1600MHz) , the exact same as the current one inside the notebook and put the RAM in slot.
With the two RAMs in position I can only use memory of one. Although Taskmanager shows 8 GB memory in total , only 4 is available for use,it says 'Hardware reserved'. Because there is an extra 4GB VRAM now, before it used to be 512 MB. The RAM goes to the Internal Graphics Shared memory. And I can't recover it by any solutions in the web.
Here are the things I did
1) used msconfig to disable the limit of memory - NO change
2) BIOS update- NO change
3) BIOS Restore- NO change
4) SLOT changing, I swapped old and new rams- NO change
5) Used only the new RAM in both slots, but the system won't boot up. It stays on a black screen.
I doubt the RAM has any damage because the OS and BIOS can actually detect the extra 4GB RAM but when I try to boot with just that RAM, it stays on the black screen.
I need to know the problem is with the RAM or not.

Please try the following way first
- Press and Hold the Windows key and Press R. Type msconfig in the Run dialog box and Press Enter.
- The System Configuration window will open. Go to the Boot tab in it.
- Select your Operating system from the list below if you have more than one. Now Click on the Advanced Options button.
- On the upper right corner, Clear the checkbox next to Maximum memory. Click Ok.
After that, it still can't use full RAM because your machine has AMD APU processor, only around 5.9GB reason

And from Microsoft PlayReady.

Update BIOS may help a bit.

Given that I have tried all the software based solutions, i believe the new RAM I added is faulty. Because system goes to black screen when booted using that RAM.
Bu the confusing part is that the OS and BIOS still detects the new RAM when used in combination with the old one.

Did you use SAME RAM as existing RAM. BIOS and OS may detect new RAM (means no faulty) but workable is a different story.
