hp 15bs146tu
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

My system currently has 4GB DDR4 Ram, I think there are two slots for RAM in this device, so I have an extra 4GB DDR4L  RAM which I wish to use in the second slot, should I do that?
I know there is a difference in terms of voltage

DDR4L aka DDR4 Low Voltage is a variation of DDR4 RAM that uses less voltage for operation (1.05V) than normal DDR4 RAM does (1.2V - 1.4V). Those are mostly used in mobile computing (including laptops) to extend the device's battery life.

Please someone help

Hi,

Your model supports max 32GB of DDR4 2400MHz RAM (2x16GB) even if service manual mentions 16GB.

There are two slots and at the moment you have one 4GB module. So, you can add another 4GB module (or more) in the empty slot. I would say 8GB is the minimum for everyday use.

Example of RAM:

https://www.crucial.com/compatible-upgrade-for/hp---compaq/hp-15-bs146tu#memory

on page 50 of service manual you can see the steps to install the RAM

You should also replace the Hard Drive with a 2,5" SATA3 SSD or add an M2 SATA3 SSD. This would give a great boost to the everyday performance of the PC.

hope it helps,

David

Thanks that's helpful, but how about using a DDR4L RAM instead of DDR4 in the same laptop?

HP Recommended

Your notebook was designed for DDR4 RAM and that is the voltage which will be used.

DDR4-1.2V - 1.4V
DDR4L-1.05V

so since the voltage is more it can damage the motherboard is it?
