I have a HP Pavilion 15z-ec200 model with a ryzen 5 5600H and NIVIDIA GTX 1650 laptop GPU, 8 GB DDR4 3200 SDRAM (2x4gb) and 256 GB m.2 SSD boot drive with a 500GB skhynix 2.5 inch SATA SSD for the games drive and I was looking to upgrade from the 2x4gb sticks to 2x8gb sticks for 16 gifs of ram does anyone have any tips on what ram I should get

Yes. Your laptop uses DDR4-3200 SO-DIMM memory. Get stock OEM product. Example: the SKHynix currently installed is OEM memory. Avoid performance or gaming RAM (Ripjaws, Vengeance, etc). HP provides memory that runs at the fastest speeds and best latency the motherboard can handle. Stock Crucial, Samsung, Timetec (Amazon's in-house brand made by Hynix)etc. will work
This is the Service Manual for the predecessor 15z-ec000 models but the procedure for replacing memory will be the same:
See pp. 28-32.
