I have the laptop HP pavilion gaming 15 ec0101ax. It has 8 GB of ram
I want to upgrade ram and therefore wanted to know if there is an additional slot for Ram upgrade or I have to remove the 8gb with another 16gb.

Welcome to our HP User Forum!
Your HP Pavilion Gaming 15 Ec0101AX (167W1PA) can handle up to 2 x 16GB of DDR4 PC4-19200, 2400 MHz, Non-ECC, Unbuffered, SODIMM, 260-pin RAM. Your laptop has two RAM slots, and is likely fitted with one 8GB RAM stick, leaving one open RAM slot.
You could install 2666 or 3200 MHz RAM, but it will down throttle to 2400 MHz.
For best RAM performance and speed, you should install identical RAM modules -same brand, model and capacity.
So, let's find out what RAM you got installed.
To that end, please type in cmd in your Windows search bar.
Then right-click on the Command Prompt App and left-click on Run as administrator. You may have to click Yes to confirm.
Now, please copy/paste/enter the following command:
wmic memorychip get devicelocator, manufacturer, partnumber, capacity, speed
Which should show something like this (using my laptop):
Please let me know what RAM info shows up for your laptop.
Kind Regards,
